The Central Council of Jews has welcomed the separation of sports goods manufacturer Adidas from rapper Kanye West. “The company’s step was overdue,” said Central Council President Josef Schuster on Tuesday in Berlin. For weeks, Kanye West caused a stir with anti-Semitic statements. “The daily new gaffes were unbearable for Jews in Germany and all over the world,” emphasized Schuster.
Adidas had called the artist’s statements unacceptable, hateful and dangerous and ended their partnership with him. Schuster complained that the company had remained silent for a conspicuously long time. “I would have wished for a clear stance earlier from a German company that was also involved in the Nazi regime,” explained the President of the Central Council.
Kanye West, who uses the stage name Ye, had posted anti-Semitic comments on Twitter and Instagram. (dpa)
