The Dutch Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA) handed out six fines on Tuesday at Zuidlaardermarkt.
Six horse traders were fined for attempted illegal exports and the lack of required documents. The horses were not provided with a health certificate, although this is mandatory. In addition, two warnings have been issued for not being able to show a transport permit and horse passport.
NWVA inspectors also removed a horse from the market due to stress symptoms. Vets from the Zuidlaardermarkt had already set aside a Shetland pony themselves in connection with diarrhea.
Import and export changed
The NVWA announced last month that it would inspect horse markets, because direct import and export to and from horse markets is no longer allowed. Horses intended for export must first be transported to a place where the animals must stay for at least 48 hours before the export inspection can take place.
More than a thousand horses were delivered to the Zuidlaardermarkt on Tuesday.
