AntwerpIn Antwerp, the pre-metro stations are gradually opening their doors again, after a technical problem was identified on Tuesday afternoon. Tram lines 2, 3, 5, 6, 9 and 15 were the most disrupted. The pre-metro stations on those lines were completely closed for a while. In the meantime, there is again a tram connection between the Right and Left Banks, but there will still be delays throughout the day, according to De Lijn.
“We will close the pre-metro completely due to a cable trough,” De Lijn said in a tweet this afternoon. “This is for security reasons.” In the end, it was not a cable break, but a break in a gutter in which the cabling is located. That created a security risk.
De Lijn shuttle buses ran all afternoon to serve stranded travelers. But now, according to De Lijn, pre-metro traffic will gradually resume its normal route. This means that there is again a tram connection between the Left and Right Banks in Antwerp. De Lijn does point out that there will be consequential delays for a long time to come, since many trams are now following above-ground diversion routes.
