FC Zurich lodges a complaint with the European football association UEFA about the events surrounding last Thursday’s Europa League match against PSV. The Swiss are sending a letter of protest to the football association, they report on the club’s website.
“Due to the unacceptable treatment of the supporters and officials at the stadium entrance, FC Zurich will submit a letter of protest to UEFA,” the club wrote.
Violence by the police
2000 fans traveled to Eindhoven on Thursday evening to watch the match in the stadium. That eventually was outside the stadium, because the branch of the Philips Stadium remained empty.
According to FC Zurich, the supporters themselves had decided to go home. In protest, according to the Swiss news site Blick. Police allegedly arrested supporters arbitrarily and used excessive force. They were also locked up after they refused to show their ID, according to the site.
Riots in the center
Prior to PSV’s match against FC Zurich, it was restless on the Markt in Eindhoven. Supporters threw chairs from the terraces and confronted the police. Three officers were slightly injured and four FC Zurich supporters were arrested.
The ME eventually managed to separate the supporters of both clubs and accompany them to the stadium. PSV won the match in Eindhoven 5-0.
