With a header from Anthony Modeste in the fifth minute of stoppage time, BVB literally saved a 2-2 draw against FC Bayern on Saturday night in the last minute. The Dortmund fans turned Signal Iduna Park into a madhouse after the last-minute goal, which also left a lasting impression on the experienced stars.
Summer new signing Niklas Süle, who had won five German championships with FC Bayern in the previous years, really got into raptures when looking back on Saturday evening: “I only knew it here as a player on the away team. That now on my own back feel how the fans pushed us forward, that was just pure goosebumps! We were able to give a few percent more because of it.”
The defender was on the field for over 90 minutes against his former club. He was initially called up at right-back before switching to his usual central-back position in the second half.
BVB defender Süle: “It felt like this Málaga game”
He praised his team for not giving up even after Leroy Sané was 0: 2 in the meantime. With his first goal in front of the Dortmund south stand, Anthony Modeste headed himself into the hero of the evening seconds before the end of the game.
“Everyone saw what happened after that! I think my whole family was showered with beer. But that’s what you really look forward to as a player here, these moments,” Süle described the situation surrounding the celebrated event Equalizer.
“It felt a bit like that Malaga game back then. We stayed brave and kept going forward and we were rewarded in the end,” added the 27-year-old.
In the Champions League quarter-finals of the 2012/2013 season, BVB was down 2-1 against FC Málaga, but after scoring two goals in injury time, they still managed to make it through to the semi-finals in the premier class. At the time, however, Süle was not on the field for BVB himself.
