Russia changed the person in charge of directing the troops fighting in Ukraine, appointing the Army General Sergei Surovikin Commander of the Joint Group of Forces in the neighboring country.
“By decision of the Defense Minister of the Russian FederationArmy General Sergei Surovikin was appointed commander of the Joint Group of Troops in the area of special military operation,” Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov said today in his daily war report.
Last April, Western media pointed out that the Kremlin had appointed the General Alexander Dvornikov with previous experience in Syria, as the first link in the chain of command to lead the war campaign in Ukraine.
According to the Russian daily Kommersant, last June the Russian Defense Ministry reported that Surovikin was in command of the Southern Group of Forces.
According to the same media, the new head of all forces in Ukraine was the head of the Aerospace Forces since October 31, 2017.
