Formula 1 | Mick Schumacher right in the middle: Williams should only negotiate with a duo

There is a little more clarity in the driver carousel: Pierre Gasly is leaving AlphaTauri and will drive for Alpine in 2023, Nyck de Vries will replace the French at Scuderia. Daniel Ricciardo also announced that his F1 exit for 2023 was probably “reality”. Nevertheless, there are still some questions in Formula 1. Right in the middle: Mick Schumacher.

The German, whose contract with the US racing team Haas ends after the season, has “picture” according to only one opponent in the fight for a possible Formula 1 cockpit for the coming year.

At Williams, Mick Schumacher is one of only two candidates to succeed Nicolas Latifi, who will lose his place in the team.

According to the newspaper, in addition to Schumacher, the American Logan Sargeant, who is currently competing in Formula 2, can still have hopes. Williams is said to be in talks with both candidates. Sargeant probably has the better cards. Allegedly, Williams prefers a driver from the USA, as they see the largest market there. Sargeant is also a junior driver for the team.

US youngster Logan Sargeant tipping the scales?

However, the 21-year-old does not yet have the required super license. However, as he is currently third in the Formula 2 classification, his chances are excellent. Fifth place in the final billing would suffice.

Meanwhile, Mick Schumacher has another ace up his sleeve. According to “Bild”, the 23-year-old can also hope for an extension of his Haas adventure. Another candidate should be veteran Nico Hülkenberg. “Formel1.de” also names Sargeant as a possible contender for the vacant seat.

If that is the case, Schumacher’s chances at Williams would skyrocket again.

In Japan, however, Schumacher has so far failed to drum up any publicity for himself. In FP1 he dismantled his car and missed FP2. On Saturday he achieved an average qualifying with rank 15.
