Number of people with corona in hospitals rises towards a thousand

Hospitals are getting busier with care for people who have contracted the corona virus. Currently, 962 people with corona have been admitted. That is the highest number since July 28.

In the past week, the total occupancy increased by 266 people, especially in the nursing wards.

The figures from the National Coordination Center for Patients Spreading (LCPS) do not distinguish between people who were admitted because of their corona complaints and people who had other health ailments and also happened to be infected. The National Institute for Public Health and the Environment (RIVM) does use that distinction and actually sees more admissions due to corona. The institute says the fall wave has begun.

Because the number of positive tests is increasing, especially among the elderly, more and more people end up in hospital because of corona. In the past day, 153 people were newly admitted, the largest influx since July 26. Eleven of those 153 ended up in intensive care, the highest number since July 22. At the end of September there were less than a hundred new recordings in one day.

Against the new admissions are people who leave the hospital, due to death or because they have recovered sufficiently. As a result, the influx is never completely equal to the increase in the total number of patients admitted. Currently, more patients are coming in at the entrance than beds are being released at the exit, and hospitals are getting busier and busier as a result.
