Today, the Minister of Justice and Security, Dilan Yesilgoz-Zegerius, sent the work plan of the National Coordinator for Combating Anti-Semitism (NCAB) to the House of Representatives. In this plan, the NCAB sets out its mission statement and it is the starting point for concrete actions in the fight against anti-Semitism. This remains necessary.

The work plan is grouped around three pillars:

1) Monitor and follow up

2) Education and prevention

3) Commemorate and celebrate

Among other things, the NCAB wants to make it easier to punish online anti-Semitism. The government has to catch up to deal with anti-Semitism in the new media forms. Anti-Semitic expressions too often remain without consequences there, because our system is still too focused on violations in the physical space.

In addition, the NCAB wants a stricter approach to anti-Semitic chants in football stadiums. The broader use of new techniques, such as facial recognition, better registration of incidents, the immediate suspension of matches and supporting the clubs in order in the stadiums are part of this. The effect of these chants penetrates deeply into the daily lives of people and children in schools and in the workplace.

A third priority is an introduction to Judaism. The Holocaust killed more than 102,000 Dutch Jews. As a result, there are fewer Jews who can propagate their culture. Unknown unfortunately makes unloved. Nurturing and promoting Jewish life therefore plays an important role in the NCAB’s work plan.

About the NCAB

The NCAB started on April 1, 2021. It brings together expertise in the field of anti-Semitism (combat) within the government, connects government and society in this battle and supports initiatives in this area in the Netherlands and Europe.

This is the NCAB’s first work plan. The plan is adapted annually to current developments.
