Low blow for the titan: an overly euphoric tweet about the women’s team’s Allianz Arena premiere blew up in the face of Oliver Kahn, CEO of FC Bayern Munich.
The good news made the rounds on Tuesday: On March 22nd, the FC Bayern soccer players will appear on the big stage for the first time. The quarter-finals of the Champions League against the French top team Paris Saint-Germain will take place in the Allianz Arena.
The FCB women usually play their home games on the Bayern campus. Due to the corona pandemic, the government is currently allowing 10,000 fans in the 75,000-seat Allianz Arena.
Bayern boss Oliver Kahn took the opportunity and shared his joy at the remarkable premiere via Twitter. “We are very happy about this milestone in the more than 50-year history of our women’s football department,” said the 52-year-old.
According to Kahn, coach Jens Scheuer’s team is getting “the stage it deserves”. He hopes that “the general conditions will allow for a football festival in which many Bayern fans will support our women in the Allianz Arena.”
FC Bayern: Kahn collects cheeky saying
Apparently, Kahn’s words weren’t met with approval everywhere. Former national player Verena Schweers even got carried away with a little teasing.
“Another nice statement from an official – but I’ve never seen you in the stadium,” replied the former Bayern defender to Kahn’s tweet. At the same time, the attached wink smiley made it clear that her replica was not meant to be malicious.
Five years ago, in the quarter-finals of the premier class, the Bayern women had already met PSG. At that time, 7,300 spectators watched the game in the Grünwalder Stadium. On March 22nd, even more fans should be there – maybe Oliver Kahn will stop by too…
