Lars Windhorst has dismissed reports of an alleged campaign by an Israeli security company against former Hertha President Werner Gegenbauer as nonsense. The 45-year-old was also disappointed by the behavior of those responsible for the Berlin Bundesliga club and their reactions to the allegations. “None of this has anything to do with a fresh start and respect,” Windhorst wrote in the private Facebook group Hertha BSC Fans on Saturday.
“I take note of the decision of the Hertha club management to postpone a press conference and to have Berlin lawyers investigate,” Windhorst continued. It is “extremely regrettable” that no attempt was made to clarify open questions in a joint internal discussion. “Instead, as in the past, there was piercing and indiscretions in the press,” emphasized Windhorst, who has invested 374 million in the club through his Tennor Group since 2019.

This became known through a lawsuit by the commissioned company. The court in Tel Aviv also confirmed this to the German Press Agency, but did not provide any information on the content or the reasons why the lawsuit was withdrawn on Thursday.
“If you looked at the situation at the time logically, it wouldn’t have made any sense at all,” said Windhorst, commenting on the security company’s alleged commitment. “It would not have required support from a foreign agency, especially for the absurd fee mentioned in the article.” According to reports, the lawsuit is said to have been about five million euros.
Hertha announced on Friday that it would have the reports processed by a law firm and asked Windhorst to provide a “detailed statement”. The club had postponed a media appointment scheduled for Tuesday with the new Hertha President Kay Bernstein and Windhorst.
