Fire in the pit lane? Formula 1 fans probably think first of Jos Verstappen’s burning Benetton in 1994 in Hockenheim. Frenchman Pierre Gasly had a similar moment in FP2 for the Singapore GP.
The Frenchman had already parked his AlphaTauri in the pits when the car suddenly caught fire at the airbox.
Gasly immediately jumped out of his car. A nice sign that rivalry doesn’t play a role in F1 to a certain extent: the Aston Martin mechanics next door were right away with their fire extinguishers, making sure the fire was extinguished immediately.
In terms of sport, it was not a particularly fiery session for Gasly: He only finished 14th in the 2nd practice session.
