BVB: Contract talks with Youssoufa Moukoko are stuck because of salary

contract expires

Center forward Youssoufa Moukoko has only played 154 of a possible 630 minutes this season, and was only in BVB coach Edin Terzic’s starting eleven on the first matchday against Bayer 04 Leverkusen. With four goals involved in six games and an average of one goal every 78 minutes, the youngest debutant and goalscorer in Bundesliga history still has a better rate than Anthony, who was signed at short notice as a replacement for the sick Sébastien Haller and has since been placed in the center of the attack Modeste (1 goal, 498 minutes playing time). For the 17-year-old, whose contract expires in 2023, the perspective of more playing time is just as crucial in the weeks that have been ongoing negotiations about a new working paper as the salary – with the latter, however, the player and the club are still far apart in their ideas.

As the “picture“-Zeitung reports that both Borussia and Moukoko are in principle willing to extend the cooperation beyond the coming summer. In terms of wages, however, no common denominator has been reached so far: According to this, the five-time U21 national player demands an annual salary of 6 million euros. A sum that would catapult him into the top 10 best earners at Westphalia and which is on the level of players like Modeste and Donyell Malen. According to the newspaper, Dortmund has not yet responded to the demands, instead offering the player 4 million euros. The talks have stalled and are to be adjourned until the winter break.

For comparison: Players like Karim Adeyemi, Nico Schulz or Thorgan Hazard are reported to currently have an annual salary of 5 million euros, as does, for example, Jamal Musiala at Bayern Munich. There professionals like Bouna Sarr and Mathys Tel earn an estimated 4 million euros (gallery: These are the salaries at FC Bayern). In addition to economic security, the Moukoko side is demanding a clear sporting future perspective with a view to a possible extension. If the two sides don’t come together, the left-footed player could be offered a free transfer to a top European club next year.
