Thousands of people have been evacuated in the Philippines due to the passage of super typhoon Noru. This is accompanied by wind speeds of 195 kilometers per hour. Evacuations are for example on the densely populated island of Luzon, where the capital Manila is also located.

According to the Philippine Meteorological Service, Noru made landfall in Burdeos (in the Polillo Islands, part of Quezon province; ed.). It is currently the strongest typhoon of the year in the Philippines.

The Philippines is hit by about 20 typhoons every year, but they tend to become more powerful. Scientists point to climate change.

Nine months ago, another super typhoon killed more than 400 in the central and southern Philippines.
