Nathan MacKinnon has signed an eight-year contract extension with the Colorado Avalanche. A puck reporter wrote about it on Twitter Chris Johnston.

The reigning champion’s star center’s new deal is worth $100.8 million. The average salary per season is therefore 12.6 million dollars.

The contract starting in the 2023–24 season is the most valuable in NHL history. The previous record deal was held Connor McDavidwho once signed an eight-year, $100 million deal with the Edmonton Oilers.

The 27-year-old Canadian center is playing until the end of the season that has yet to start with a real discount. The amount affecting the salary cap is only 6.3 million.

MacKinnon, who has played 638 games in the NHL regular season, has scored a total of 242+406=648 points. Mikko Rantanen MacKinnon, who forged power in the same chain, scored no less than 32+56=88 points in 65 games last season.

In the playoffs, MacKinnon led Colorado to the championship. Points were accumulated in 20 matches 13+11=24.
