A special day for Marco. A horse. He is walking along today during Prinsjesdag in The Hague. The horse is from the Vredenheim stable in Grolloo, a stable run by Wilma Brinkman.
“I’ve always wanted to have one running,” she says. That opportunity presented itself at the end of August. Her neighbor texted if she could use a horse box to train her own horse. For Prince’s Day. “Then I thought: ‘Hey, I always wanted that too’.” So she asks her neighbor if she knows whether horses are still being sought for Prinsjesdag. “She says they are always looking for calm, well-behaved horses that can run with them.”
Wilma won’t let her tell her twice. Within two weeks everything was arranged and someone already came by to test her. This afternoon her horse Marco will be walking along. At least, that’s the expectation.
“The chance is quite high. I’m sure he’ll follow along.” Yesterday Marco had a beach exercise in Scheveningen. “That was really nice to see.” But above all: “He did that really well. So I was very proud.”
But whether Marco really follows along will be exciting for Wilma today. “Something can always come up. It could be that he has stumbled, or that something is wrong.”
When does she know if Marco is going with you? “I’m sitting in front of the television this afternoon. Hopefully I’ll see him pass by. There are a lot of horses there. I recognize him well. He is black, has a nice blaze (a white spot on the head) and every now and then he nods yes So if you see a black horse nodding, it might be Marco,” she laughs.
Wilma especially likes this day and additional experience for Marco. “He especially learns a lot from it. There is always guidance and they take very good care of him.”
