FC Barcelona has extended the contract with super talent Gavi by three years until 2026. FC Bayern was also said to be interested in the 18-year-old midfield jewel.
Important personnel decision at FC Barcelona: As the Catalans announced on Wednesday, Pablo Martín Páez Gavira, known as Gavi, will remain with the 26-time Spanish champion.
The midfield talent, who despite being only 18 years old is one of the permanent staff under coach Xavi, extended his contract, which expires after this season, by three years until June 30, 2026.
Gavi’s release clause is now €1bn. Its real market value is estimated by “transfermarkt.de” at around 60 million euros.
Barca and Gavi had verbally agreed months ago on further cooperation. However, the new contract has only just been signed because of the club’s financial difficulties.
FC Bayern got their hopes up
Officially, Barca explained the delay by saying that Gavi must first come of age to sign. But he celebrated his 18th birthday on August 5th.
Although the extension of the homegrown talent is by no means surprising against this background, there have always been rumors about him leaving. FC Bayern was also said to be interested in Gavi.
“Bild” football boss and Bayern insider Christian Falk recently revealed that Munich had hopes of a commitment because the contract situation had not yet been finally clarified.
Already 54 competitive games for FC Barcelona
However, Gavi focused on Barca and participation in the Winter World Cup in Qatar. Therefore, there were probably no concrete discussions.
Despite his young age, Gavi already has some experience in the professional field: 54 competitive games for Barca and ten appearances in Spain’s national team are in his vita.
