Intermediate update Turkey
Transfermarkt.com.tr revised the market values in the Süper Lig after the end of the transfer phase and focused on newcomers. While loan players like Dele Alli or Mauro Icardi were left out due to the complete update due at the end of October, there were adjustments for some players with fixed transfers. Galatasaray Istanbul in particular, which was more active on the market than any other top team, put several ups and downs at once. Former BVB talent Emre Mor is also on the way up.
With Sérgio Oliveira (30), Lucas Torreira (26) and Léo Dubois (27), Galatasaray has three of the six biggest losers, which is mainly due to the low transfer fees. Oliveira moved from FC Porto to Istanbul for 3 million euros and falls from 12 million to 6.5 million euros – the biggest market value minus in the league. Torreira, who joined from Arsenal for €6m, is down from €20m to €17m and Dubois, for whom the Yellow-Reds transferred €2.5m to Olympique Lyon, is down from €10m to 7 Million Euro.
Overall, Galatasaray’s squad value falls by EUR 6.35 million as a result of the update – compared to the beginning of the transfer phase, however, there is still a plus left due to the many top-class newcomers. In addition, a promising talent was signed on Deadline Day with Yusuf Demir, who rose by 3 million to 9 million euros, late in the transfer phase. Despite the short term of the contract, the “lions” paid 7 million euros to Rapid Wien, a clear signal that the future should belong to the 19-year-old. Together with the Scandinavian duo of Victor Nelsson (+2 to 14 million euros) and Fredrik Midtsjö (+1.5 to 7.5 million euros), Demir improves the balance of fifth place in the table a little.

After all, the former Dortmund player Emre Mor is up by at least 1.3 million euros, the ninth largest upgrade in the league. “After a decent season at Fatih Karagümrük, Mor is back at a top club that was willing to pay €2m. He did well at the start under Jorge Jesus and could have improved further. Due to its instability in the past, however, the step to 3 million euros is sufficient for the time being. If he confirms the current form, the next upgrade could follow in the complete update,” explains Lara Karacan, Lead of Content Transfermarkt TR. The offensive player was last rated higher in early 2018, shortly after he left BVB for Celta Vigo.
Besides Mor, Fenerbahce also have the second biggest winner of the update in the person of Arda Güler. The 17-year-old top talent scored twice in his first two league games and has been linked with several European clubs over the summer. The attacking midfielder jumped from €6m to €9m and is now one of the 25 most valuable players in the league.
At the top, as with most newcomers, there was mostly devaluation. The three most valuable players before the transfer phase were all devalued. Ugurcan Cakir (-3 million euros), Kerem Aktürkoglu (-1.5 million euros) and Altay Bayindir (-1 million euros) are now valued at 15 million euros. “For this trio, there weren’t the expected offers from the big European leagues in the summer, which is why the market values were corrected slightly downwards,” explains Karacan.

This is how the Transfermarkt market values work
The Transfermarkt market values are created taking into account various pricing models and a strong involvement of the Transfermarkt community, which deals with the values in detailed discussions. The transfer market market values are not to be equated with the transfer fees actually paid.
The goal is not to predict a price, but an expected value. When determining the market value, both individual transfer modalities and situational framework conditions are relevant to a certain extent. Examples of this are listed here. Transfermarkt does not use an algorithm (for detailed market value definition).
