The former president Eduardo Duhalde was next to President Albert Fernandez at the mass for peace on Saturday, which took place in the Basilica of Luján. Both occupied the first row during the ceremony, convened for “peace and brotherhood of Argentines”, and to ask for Cristina Kirchner, after the attack she suffered on September 1.
Duhalde affirmed that it was a “very important” meeting and emphasized the importance of “brotherhood” as a society. “The union of Argentines is what we need. Twe have to think about our grandchildrenin the future,” declared the president.
And he was optimistic about the possibility of closing the political crack: “the situation of confrontation will gradually soften. We are always fighting like cats and dogs and so Argentina is not going to work (…) people don’t want more violence,” said Duhalde.
The relationship between the Duhaldes and Alberto Fernandez It had been close at first. The president had summoned Hilda “Chiche” Duhalde through Daniel Arroyo to occupy an important place in the “Hunger Table” and received the former president in Olivos. Lavagnismo, moreover, with which Duhalde has links (he supported the candidacy of a former economy minister) had joined the government (Marco Lavagna, also close to Sergio Massa, is the head of INDEC).
But those ties ended up breaking. The first to slam the door was chicheangry at the little place they gave her in putting together a solution to food problems: a debate that was central in the 2019 campaign, also leveraged by religious sectors close to the government, but ended with the implementation of the Food Card.

Today the former president, who insisted during the last year with the Moncloa pact like the one that in some moment closed with Raúl Alfonsín and the UCR to govern after the crisis of 2001, closed ranks again with Alberto Fernandez and explains that his anger was because the president ignored them when he recommended taking care of his health.
“I get mad at him because he doesn’t take care of himself (…) All the presidents in the world take 3 hours for themselves, I told him about examples in the world. I did the same baton as Alberto, then one day I began to see things that weren’t there, I had hallucinations typical of people who don’t take care of themselves, because I brought the Adventists to Olivos, and after a month and a half I was fine,” Duhalde recalled. a few weeks ago, when I was starting to bond again.
The former governor of the province of Buenos Aires celebrates that the president looks better today. Is that after delivering part of the executive issues to the superminister of Economy, Serge Massawho gained centrality, the president found some respite after a year of pressure that put them at some point on the verge of resignation in the tug-of-war with the vice president Cristina Fernandez de Kirchner.
Along these lines, the president appears today committed to and aligned with Cristina Kirchner, who from the beginning of the public prosecutor’s exposition Diego Luciani in the Road Case, and then more decisively with the attack against him, he closed the debate in the front of allachieving a total alignment of the different political spaces that make up the Peronist coalition.
Duhalde, in this sense, had already referred to the importance of national unity. “In 2002 we created the first and only government of National Unity of the Argentine Republic in its entire history. This was because the week before, when the Legislative Assembly elected him to Alberto Rodriguez Saa c.As governor of San Luis, very few people voted for him,” he reviewed about his arrival at the presidency.
“When they rushed me to be president, I said that the only exception was that everyone voted for me, because Argentina needed a united country: in the Legislative Assembly I obtained 93% of positive votes. But being united is not enough and that is what many do not understand, the countries that have come forward do so by working and producing”, he continued.
