De Cuyper and Vermeylen win Zwin triathlon
Severe weather on the coast, so the swimming test over 1500 m in the sea is cancelled, the conditions are not safe enough to swim there. An additional 5 km run will take its place. After that running number we get four leaders in the cycling part, over 40 km. Two teammates from the SMO-Scott, the Meetjesland triathlon team: Simon De Cuyper (40) and Alexis Krug (46). Sander Heemeryck (118) also and Christophe De Keyser (7), who is blown away a little later. The man from Overijse wants to build up the largest possible lead while cycling, although the heavens open completely above Knokke.
De Keyser also starts as leader in the 10 km run, but Kjel De Hertog (28) and Nick Thijs (20) have now joined the three others. So the five of them go in pursuit of the man in front, Christophe De Keyser.
Simon De Cuyper (40) is one of those five, he is an excellent runner. The lead that De Keyser built up while cycling is not big enough. After 5 km, he has De Keyser, De Cuyper becomes the new leader. It is a nice battle between De Cuyper and De Keyser, but the 35-year-old Simon De Cuyper is clearly the fastest runner, he takes the victory in the Zwin triathlon ahead of Christophe De Keyser. Third is Sander Heemerijck (118).
In the women’s category, this Belgian Champion Jolien Vermeylen from Averbode (1004) wins.
