VfB Stuttgart earned a point at Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga on Saturday (September 10th, 2022) with a fighting performance. Especially Serhou Guirassy shone at 2:2 on matchday 6.
Mathys Tel had a pass from Alphonso Davies (36th minute) to make it 1-0. Chris Führich, who came on after the break, scored to equalize (57th), before Yamal Musiala (60th) put Bayern in front again. After two goals by Guirassy were disallowed due to previous foul play, the Guinean scored a penalty kick (90′).
Excitement about Führich’s action against Kimmich
The guests concentrated on the defensive right from the start and often presented the record champions with complicated tasks. In the first half hour, Bayern found it extremely difficult to find a gap in the strong VfB defence. The first really big opportunity, a double chance for Tel and Gnabry (30th), then initiated a major phase of pressure from Bayern, which the starting eleven debutant Tel decided six minutes later with the 1-0.
In the second half of the game, an action involving Joshua Kimmich quickly caused a stir: Guirassy took a pass from Führich, who had just stolen the ball from Kimmich. The video assistant switched on because Führich, who had come on as a substitute for the second period, had briefly plucked Munich’s shirt – the referee decided it was a foul game, no goal.
Stuttgart stay tuned
VfB didn’t allow themselves to be demoralized and kept pushing for an equalizer. This time it was preceded by a mistake by the highly acclaimed Musiala, who lost the ball to the determined Konstantinos Mavropanos. The waited Führich, who finished strongly from the half-right position in the left corner.
But Musiala made up for his mistake: After a strong dribbling half right on the edge of the penalty area, the 19-year-old finished with his left foot – Florian Müller had no chance.
Guirassy, Guirassy, Guirassy
Again, the Swabians didn’t get stuck: And Guirassy in particular really wanted to score. The Stuttgarter took measure in the 74th minute and thundered the ball to the crossbar, five minutes later the Guinean hit the net again, but again a foul on Kimmich preceded the goal.
The celebrated equalizer came from a penalty kick in injury time: Matthijs de Ligt met Guirassy on the foot when the striker finished – according to video evidence, referee Christian Dingert pointed to the penalty spot. There the man who was fouled started himself and confidently turned the top right corner into a corner – Guirassy crowned his performance that afternoon.
