Three-time Grand Slam winner Angelique Kerber was quite impressed by Jule Niemeier’s performance at the US Open.
“I have to say that Jule is very cool. She does her thing,” said Kerber on “Eurosport” on the sidelines of the broadcast of the women’s final on Saturday.
After convincing performances in the round of 16 in New York, Niemeier failed in three sets against the eventual finalist Iga Swiatek. “I think she learned a lot from the match,” said Kerber: “She will definitely get her chances.”
The 34-year-old is currently taking a baby break herself. “I’m really doing very well. I’m enjoying the pregnancy and trying to use every minute for myself,” said Kerber: “But I can’t wait to be back on the pitch and see everyone’s faces again.”
