Tesla’s Model Y SUV crossover continues to be a global bestseller.

The new basic version can now be ordered in Europe. The vehicles with rear-wheel drive and a smaller battery will initially be built exclusively in the Gigafactory in Shanghai and will be delivered from the end of this year.

Different prices in Europe

What is striking, however, is the different pricing in the individual countries: In Germany, the smallest Model Y with the unofficial nickname RWD is significantly more expensive than in the other European countries.

In the Tesla configurator, the Model Y with rear-wheel drive costs 53,990 euros in Germany, including the manufacturer’s share of the German environmental bonus of 2,975 euros. In comparison, according to Teslamag, the smallest Model Y is the cheapest in France and the Netherlands at 49,990 euros. In Denmark, the entry-level model is the most expensive at the equivalent of 60,500 euros, which is probably due to the high taxation of new cars.

Price comparison of Tesla models

The price difference to the larger Model Y with all-wheel drive and dual motor is therefore very small in Germany: The Model Y Long Range, which is also produced in the Brandenburg Gigafactory, currently costs just 3,000 euros more in the configurator (56,990 euros). , the Model Y Performance 65,450 euros.

In contrast, the basic variant of the Model 3 costs less in Germany: it amounts to 49,990 euros in the configurator. The Model 3 Long Range, on the other hand, at €59,490 is €3,000 more expensive compared to the Y Series Long Range model, a pricing anomaly unique in Europe according to Teslamag. This could indicate an imminent price increase for the mid-range Model Y.
