★★★1/2 A man is suspected of being unfaithful by his wife. They have been married for several (many? Who knows what “many” is) years and there is a third in the middle, and jealousy, and danger. Nothing too original in a world with basic needs more than satisfied (which is not a problem at all, but sometimes the clean smoothness of wealth dissolves the effect of melodrama). If what you want to know is if you are going to entertain yourself with this jealousy thriller on Sunday afternoon, we will say “yes”. But if what you want to know is whether he’s going to remember it on Monday morning, we’re very doubtful. The problem with this class of long-winded products made to regulations is not only that they lack the formal audacity to generate something memorable: they also lack moral audacity when art is -or should be- the cathartic field where everything is possible. That’s the way it is, a story that he saw a thousand times but in a Nordic landscape, cute and asceptic.
