Not in the “premier class” for the first time
Ex-Real captain Marcelo has found a new club. Late on Friday evening, the Greek champions Olympiacos Piraeus announced the signing of the 34-year-old, who was without a club after his contract with the Madrilenians ended. The Brazilian signed a contract in the Mediterranean port city until 2023, which should include an option for another season.
Marcelo left Real Madrid in the summer after more than 15 years. In total, the left-back played 545 games for the “Royals”, with Karim Benzema (34) only one legionnaire played more often for Real. In the last game that Marcelo watched on the bench, he secured the Champions League trophy for the fifth time with the Blancos with a 1-0 win over Liverpool and the 25th title in Real dress – no Madrilenian celebrated in history more often over a trophy.

Marcelo is playing for the Greek record champions for the first time in his career in the Europa League – and is coming to Germany for this. In Group F, alongside FC Nantes from France and Qarabağ FK from Azerbaijan, there is also SC Freiburg. On September 15 (6:45 p.m.), coach Christian Streich’s team will welcome the Greeks to the Europa-Park stadium.
