The Chilean Joachim Niemann, who has just joined Saudi Arabian LIV Golf, made his debut this Friday on the new circuit with a brilliant six under par at the Boston tournament and placed just one shot behind the leaders, the Americans Talor Gooch and Matthew Wolf (-7) . In the third American LIV tournament, the new golf league financed by the Saudi Arabian government, Niemann achieved seven birdies for a single bogey and delivered a card of 64 hits. Niemann, 23, was number 1 in the world amateur ranking for 44 weeks between 2017 and 2018 and is currently the best Chilean golfer. He joined LIV last Tuesday alongside Australian Cameron Smith.
gooch was the strongest in Boston, with eight birdies to one bogey, while wolf he qualified his three ‘bogeys’ with two brilliant ‘eagles’ and six ‘birdies’. Eugenio Lopez Chacarra was the best Spaniard with a card of 66 strokes, two under par, while his compatriot Sergio Garcia signed the pair. The Mexicans Abraham Ancer and Carlos Ortiz finished the first day with one under par (69 strokes).
Cameron Smith, the highest-ranked player in the world ranking (2) who competes in an LIV tournament, also debuted this Friday with a card of 64 strokes, six under par. The recent British Open winner boasts eight professional titles, including The Players Championship earlier this year.
The Boston tournament runs until next Sunday.
