Cody Gakpo will stay with PSV. The winger has made the decision, various club watchers of the Eindhoven football club reported on Twitter on Thursday morning.
Later this day, the transfer markets of top foreign competitions will close, but Gakpo seems to want to stay in Eindhoven. That reports both club watcher Marco Timmer van Football International as club watcher Rik Elfrink of the Eindhovens Dagblad.
It had been clear for a long time that Gakpo is on several English wish lists. According to Elfrink, there was interest from Leeds United, among others. He was even supposed to go to Leeds this Thursday, but the PSV captain did not go.
After the match against FC Volendam on Wednesday evening, in which he scored three times, it was revealed via the Eindhovens Dagblad that not only Gakpo might leave for England. Ibrahim Sangare is rumored to be in the interest of Chelsea.
Trainer Ruud van Nistelrooij then indicated that he was no longer nervous about it. “I have experienced this as a player before. I am called when there is news, but otherwise I focus on the team. We can’t get anyone anymore.”
