Roland Kaiser finds “the music industry more exciting than ever”

Pop star Roland Kaiser (70) currently finds the music industry “more exciting than ever”.

“Social media now offer opportunities that have never existed before and musicians can draw attention to themselves without working with big record companies right away,” he told the German Press Agency. “I find it exciting when things change and I don’t mourn any things.”

In terms of his own music consumption, Kaiser, whose new album “Perspektiven” will be released this Friday, is still more of a classic type: “But I don’t stream, no. I have a record collection and listen to classic radio: Swing, Sinatra, radio plays, information radio or cultural magazines.”

And he can’t quite understand a current discussion: The one about “Layla”: “The “Layla” discussion seems pretty questionable to me,” said the musician (“Joana”) of the dpa.

“In the 1920s/30s, the hit was a lot more risqué and everything that was sung in the years that followed: “Ten naked hairdressers” or “Go get a beer, you’re getting ugly again” – that was all much more explicit.”

Incidentally, the type of discussion creates exactly what you really don’t want: attention for the song. “People choose what they want to hear. Personally, I’m not a party-goer now who listens to this music.”
