West Ham set new transfer record

Premier League club West Ham United have signed Brazilian soccer international Lucas Paqueta and set a club transfer record.

The London club will pay Olympique Lyon €43m for the midfielder. Additional bonus payments of EUR 17 million were also agreed.

The 25-year-old is the most expensive acquisition in West Ham United’s history. He replaces Sebastien Haller, for whom the club transferred 50 million euros to Eintracht Frankfurt in 2019. Haller is now under contract with Borussia Dortmund, but is currently unable to play due to testicular cancer.

According to West Ham United on Monday evening, Paqueta will receive a five-year contract and will be team-mate with German international Thilo Kehrer. The ex-Schalke player recently switched from Paris Saint-Germain to the Premier League.
