It should have been the hat-trick highlights of their current Berlin tour: After playing their way through the capital’s very small and larger clubs in the past few months, Die Ärzte wanted to open three times in a row on August 26th, 27th and 28th the Tempelhofer Feld, a former world-famous airport in the middle of Berlin. Just a few hours before the scheduled start of the Friday show, they announced bad news: due to a storm warning, the concert is unfortunately and for safety’s sake.
Are there Die-Ärzte concerts on Saturday and Sunday in Tempelhof?
Bademeister.com, the homepage of Die Ärzte, states:
“Attention: Due to an approaching storm, we are forced to end the concert in Berlin today, August 26, 2022, for safety reasons.
If you are already there: For your own safety, please leave the area of the event site on the designated paths. Keep calm and watch out for those around you. Please follow the instructions of the security service.
If you still wanted to arrive, please do not do so or turn around if you are already on your way.
The events on Saturday and Sunday will take place as planned according to the current status.
Further information follows always here as soon as possible.
Thank you for your understanding.”
The Donots, who were scheduled to open alongside Shirley Holmes on Friday, also announced the bad news via Instagram:
In an Insta story, the Donots also posted a video of the rain falling on the site, to which they wrote: “As sad as it is – right decision.”
It is still unclear whether there should be an alternative date. In any case, tickets should be able to be returned in the foreseeable future. Organizer Loft Concerts, who still believed in the performance of the concert until noon, writes on his homepage:
“Regarding the refund, all ticket buyers will receive an email with further information by the end of next week at the latest (i.e. by September 2, 2022).”
But there was also confirmed what the doctors themselves had already explained:
“The events on Saturday and Sunday will take place as planned according to the current status.”
Muff Potter and SDP are scheduled to open on Saturday, and Royal Republic and The Dead End Kids on Sunday.
This summer, several Die Ärzte concerts in Berlin were canceled at short notice, due to the illness of a band member. Those concerts have been or will be rescheduled.
PODCAST “THIS ONE LOVE” ACCOMPANIES THE DOCTORS ON THEIR BERLIN TOUR
On their Berlin tour, Die Ärzte will also be accompanied by radioeins presenter and Ärzte fan Marco Seiffert. Within fifteen days he attends nine concerts of his favorite band and produces a podcast episode with his impressions and experiences for each of the gigs. In addition, the listeners will hear interviews and a lot of background information about the legendary band in the context of the concerts. Under the name “This one love – 40 years of the doctors” you will find the podcast in the ARD audio library and all other common podcast portals.
The band’s current album is called DUNKEL and was released on September 24, 2021. The previous album HELL was released almost a year earlier. The punk rock band, founded in 1982, has consisted of Farin Urlaub (real name Jan Vetter), Bela B (real name Dirk Felsenheimer) and Rodrigo González since 1993 and is often counted among the most influential bands in German music history.
If you want to know more about Die Ärzte, we recommend the current book by Musikexpress editor Stephan Rehm-Rozanes. It comprises 100 pages and is called: “Die Ärzte”.
