A few days before the start of the US Open, Wimbledon semifinalist Tatjana Maria was eliminated in the quarterfinals of the WTA tournament in Granby, Canada, after a tough fight.
The 35-year-old from Bad Saulgau lost to Diane Parry from France 4: 6, 7: 6 (8: 6), 6: 7 (4: 7). Maria was the only German starter in the field.
At the Grand Slam tournament in New York, which starts on Monday, Maria has to deal with a difficult opponent at the start.
The world rankings-92. plays in the first round against third seeded Maria Sakkari (27). The Greek had advanced to the semi-finals in Flushing Meadows last year.
