New party photo for which Finnish Prime Minister Sanna Marin apologizes taken in official residence | Abroad

Sanna Marin, Finland’s prime minister, apologized yesterday for a new party photo. It shows two women – not Marin herself – kissing on the mouth and covering their naked upper bodies with a plate bearing the word ‘Finland’. The photo was taken during a party in Kesäranta, the official residence of Marin.

“The image is inappropriate and should not be taken,” said 36-year-old Marin at a press conference with President Sauli Niinistö in Helsinki yesterday.

The photo was taken on Sunday 10 July after Ruisrock, one of Finland’s oldest and most famous music festivals. It was model Sabina Särkkä, who put it online. She was then present at an after party at the official residence of the Finnish Prime Minister.

Offline

Särkkä, meanwhile, took the photo offline and apologized for it on her Instagram page last night. “I posted an inappropriate photo on 10.7 that shouldn’t have been taken. I am deeply sorry and apologize for my behavior,” she wrote in a statement in white lettering on a black background. The comments to the post were turned off.

A TikTok video of the party posted by Särkkä has also been taken offline. Marin himself was not to be seen there either.

Marin was criticized last week for videos of a private party, where she dances and sings with friends. She was accused of possibly using drugs. She denied that and took a negative drug test.

At the press conference, the president was also asked whether national security was not compromised that night. “I don’t think anything special happened that night,” he said.
