Walker Saskia Feige won the bronze medal at the European Athletics Championships over 20 kilometers.
After a personal best of 1:29:25 in Munich, the 24-year-old only had to admit defeat to the Greek Antigoni Ntrismpioti and the Pole Katarzyna Zdzieblo.
“It feels crazy. I’m super, super happy with bronze. That’s more than I expected,” said Feige on “ARD” and raved about the mood in the city center: “I heard my name every meter .”
In 1:29:03 hours it was Ntrismpioti’s second victory in these title fights after the success over 35 kilometers.
At the European Championships four years ago, the three-time German champion Feige finished 16th. This time she won the first German medal in this discipline since Melanie Seeger’s bronze medal in 2010.
For the German walkers it is the second medal at this European Championships after silver by Christopher Linke over 35 kilometers.
