Andrea Degiacomo, how were the beginnings of this undertaking and for what purpose did you carry it out?
I started this space at the beginning of 2020. Being an emerging artist from Buenos Aires, I decided to dedicate my time to helping other unknown artists to walk the path of art.
As an emerging artist I had the opportunity to reach large international stages in a short time. During 2018 and 2019 my works were exhibited during Art Basel Miami, Art Market San Francisco, and Art on Paper NY. I was also invited to participate in art shows in Genoa, Milan and Venice. This experience was so enriching that when I returned from my trips I decided to set up an art space (inspired by American and European galleries) especially to promote emerging art, with the aim of giving visibility to the thousands of talents who, due to lack of experience, or because they do not have artistic training, they are exempted from salons and galleries throughout the country.
I chose the province of Córdoba for personal reasons, and I was not wrong, since despite having opened its doors in a very difficult situation (July 2020), dozens of artists began to join. Incredible talented people. Some who were just starting out and others who couldn’t find a place to exhibit their work. Little by little, a community of people from all over the country began to form, with the intention of spreading their art. In fact, our Curator, Natali Bonaudi, is a young Arts graduate who showed up one afternoon with the intention of exhibiting and ended up designing the samples and managing educational activities for the artists.
What is the goal of Art Factory?
Our main challenge is to be an open door Gallery. We do not require art titles, or contests won or works sold. We only establish basic guidelines in the calls, which every artist who is just starting out can comply with. And if he can’t, we give him the tools so he can. That is our differential.
In addition to offering them dissemination of their work, we explain how to move around the art circuit: How to present themselves at calls, how to prepare a work to exhibit, how to write an artist biography, how to make a work certificate, how to price them and how they are exported. In turn, we offer clinics and art laboratories and workshops and seminars on different techniques.
What results have you achieved in these years and what is your next challenge?
Thanks to the support of hundreds of artists from Córdoba and the rest of the country, we have completed two years of life, we expanded our premises a month ago and we have sold 75 paintings and sculptures by talented artists. Our next challenge is to become the benchmark for Emerging Art Galleries throughout the country.
