Nearly 84,000 speeding fines were handed out on roads in Drenthe last year. There are about 35,000 fines for both inside and outside built-up areas.
That has brought in a lot of money. All speeding fines together last year amounted to more than 7 million euros. But issuing speeding fines are not only intended for collecting money, as the government would also like to emphasize. It should primarily benefit road safety.
The number of registered traffic accidents in Drenthe has decreased slightly over the past 5 years, but the number of traffic casualties has increased in the past 5 years. Accidents therefore become more serious.
Should there be more speed checks on provincial roads in Drenthe?
