JCPenney appoints new chief financial officer

US retailer JCPenney has named Stephanie Plaines its new chief financial officer.

Plaines is taking on the role of chief financial officer effective immediately, JCPenney announced Thursday. It takes over all financial activities of the company. These include financial strategy, real estate, capital deployment, credit services, procurement and purchasing, finance and accounting.

“JCPenney invests for the long term as we execute our customer-centric strategy to enhance the shopping experience and strengthen brand loyalty,” said Managing Director Marc Rosen. “Stephanie brings more than 20 years of strategic and financial leadership experience at leading global retailers. Her strengths in data-driven financial management and her track record of delivering value will make her an invaluable advisor to the entire organization as we develop new digital and technology capabilities to drive our transformation agenda.”

She comes to JCPenney from real estate service provider Jones Lang LaSalle, where she was most recently CFO. She has also held leadership positions at companies such as Starbucks and Walmart.
