Regional heat wave a fact, only not yet in Gilze-Rijen

There has been a regional heat wave in Brabant since the end of Friday morning. Weerplaza reports this based on the weather stations in Eindhoven, Volkel and Woensdrecht. Only in Gilze-Rijen is there not yet a heat wave. Saturday, if a temperature of at least 25 degrees is reached there.

For a heat wave, there must be five summer days of 25 degrees or more in a row, with the temperature above 30 degrees for three days. In Eindhoven, Volkel and Woensdrecht this was the case shortly after eleven o’clock on Friday morning.

Provincial heat wave
“30 degrees or more have also been measured in Gilze for three days in a row: Wednesday and Thursday and this Friday,” says Wilfred Janssen of Weerplaza. “The 25 degrees will probably be reached there on Saturday around nine o’clock in the morning. Then we can also speak of a heat wave there and we will therefore have a provincial heat wave.”

The temperature in the entire province is expected to be around 34 degrees this Friday. “A lot of sunshine and a moderate easterly wind.” Wilfred expects another degree more on Saturday and Sunday.

Not really stuffy
Despite the heat, it doesn’t really feel stuffy outside. “If it’s really hot in our region, we often have to deal with a southerly wind,” explains the Weerplaza weatherman. “That air is often a bit more humid. Then it feels a bit more stuffy. Now we are dealing with a somewhat drier easterly wind. That makes it a bit more bearable for many people, despite the fact that we are dealing with high temperatures.”

After the weekend, the chance of showers increases. “But very local,” emphasizes Wilfred. “There will be places where there will be heavy rain or thunderstorms, but in many places the drought will continue for a while.”
