The euphoria is back in Gelsenkirchen – and Schalke are back in the Bundesliga. On May 7, 2022, the “Knappen” made it back to the top flight. A year earlier, the club from the Ruhr area was still on the ground – sportingly and economically. The six-part documentary “Schalke 04 – zurück zum Wir” shows how royal blue found itself again from September 15 on RTL+.
The long-term documentary will be available on RTL+ from September 15th. The close-up accompanies the club in one of its darkest hours and provides exclusive insights into the “Resurgence” mission.
It doesn’t matter whether it’s in the living room of the players or fans, at crisis meetings of the board of directors or emotional speeches in the dressing room, in the fan pub or in the grandstand – the cameras are always there and capture the Schalke legend in an authentic way.
Club icons have their say
“Schalke 04 – Back to the Wir” also deals with the challenging restructuring of the squad and the financial difficulties of the club. Sports director Rouven Schröder and the club board members Peter Knäbel, Christina Rühl-Hamers and Dr. Bernd Schröder classify the situation and look at the unprecedented upheaval that the club has gone through at all levels.
Club icons such as Gerald Asamoah, Mike Büskens and Huub Stevens also have their say and explain what Schalke means to the entire region. And the steadfast fans also show how much they stand by their heart club despite all the adversities.
