Peter Gillis will probably not be dismissed by SBS 6, because he is simply too important for John de Mol’s channel. That is what media journalist Jordi Versteegden of De Telegraaf says.
According to media commentator Harry Vermeegen, it is a travesty that Peter Gillis can continue at SBS 6, despite being suspected of abusing his girlfriend Nicol. “That’s what they all think: go ahead,” he says. According to Angela de Jong it is clear: she states that Talpa is morally bankrupt.
Gillis too important
Telegraaf reporter Jordi Versteegden points out that Talpa just wants to earn money. “Look, how it just works in the television world: Peter Gillis is far too important for SBS 6 to put him aside now,” says the TV expert in the culture and media podcast of the newspaper.
Jordi thinks Peter should get ‘at least a hard warning’. “What that man has to do is just go deep into the dust and that is in the broadcast of Massa is Kassa. That has to be a storyline in that series, because that’s the only way this can be solved in the end.”

Jordi finds it ‘unbelievable’ that Peter initially lied about his arrest by the police. Not only against the press, but even against Talpa. “I find this anything but sympathetic. It’s just about how you deal with the press, the ones you also need when you have something to promote.”
He continues: “If there is something going on in a private sphere, you will lie about it all at once. I can usually call him. Then he picks up immediately and says what it is, but now he has gone a bit too far. This is not how we know Peter.”
control freak
Why did Peter lie like that? “Peter is just a huge control freak, someone who likes to have everything in his own hands and maybe he would have wanted to announce that this happened at a later time. He didn’t have that chance. It has been leaked that he has been arrested. But then to lie… You shouldn’t.”
It’s not that Jordi is disgusted by Peter now. “He is a very friendly man and I was warmly welcomed by him, but what do you want when the press comes over? Then you want to deliver a good business card, but besides that I dare to say that I think he is a sympathetic guy.”
