A revised Corona regulation for retail in Lower Saxony should be in the first half of the coming week. A government spokeswoman announced on Friday in Hanover. The Higher Administrative Court in Lüneburg had overturned the 2G rule that had only recently come into force in retail in Lower Saxony. The court decided on Thursday that the measure is not necessary to further contain the coronavirus and is not compatible with the general principle of equality.

This means that people who have not been vaccinated against the coronavirus are again allowed to go shopping in shops. However, shopkeepers can exercise their house rules and continue to limit admission. Now it has to be clarified how the state government will regulate this area in the future in the corresponding Corona ordinance. A 3G rule could be conceivable, with which people who have not been vaccinated would need a negative test.

Lawsuit by department store chain Woolworth

The department store chain Woolworth had sued. A spokeswoman said on Friday that the company was confident that other federal states would join the case law from Lower Saxony. “This decision represents an important breakthrough for Woolworth and many other retailers,” said Diana Schönfeld from Woolworth. The access restrictions were discriminatory. “In addition, the retail trade is not a driver of the pandemic – it has been proven that it does not pose a significant risk of infection.” (dpa)
