It got pretty loud. In a television interview, Roger Waters had a heated argument with CNN journalist Michael Smerconish. The ex-Pink Floyd guitarist and singer has claimed that Joe Biden is a “warmonger” in Ukraine and that Taiwan is part of China. He was heavily criticized for this on Twitter.
“Taiwan is part of China and has been accepted by the international community since 1948,” Waters said. If you don’t know that, you need to read more books, he added. In general, the 78-year-old answered almost all questions with the answer: “Go ahead and just read about it”. Smerconish countered. China is now responsible for a large part of human rights violations.
“But it wasn’t China that invaded Iraq in 2003 and killed a million people there,” Waters replied loudly. He then sarcastically tried to recall when China had ever attacked another people. Smerconish then declared that the country had attacked and killed its own people. Waters, who apparently has never heard of Mao Zedong or the oppressed Uyghur ethnic group: “Bullshit”.
“He lives on the dark side of the moon”
Alex Bristow, among others, spoke up on Twitter. He works for the Australian Institute for Strategic Studies, which specializes in security policy. Briswow stressed that Taiwan was never ruled by communist China. Waters would be living on the “dark side of the moon” if he believed that.
What the Division Bell is Roger Waters on? He’s clearly been living on The Dark Side of the Moon. Taiwan has never been ruled by communist China. History lesson available here: https://t.co/UwhXGOnSjL https://t.co/Z5iqjs55Ws

But Waters is not only criticized. His comments are met with enthusiasm on YouTube. “Respect to Roger Waters!” Writes one user. Another commented: “Roger is absolutely right! Not only that, he has the guts to say it publicly. My hero!”
Medvedev excited
The musician also made dubious new friends with his comment on the Ukraine war. Russia’s ex-president Dmitry Medvedev wrote on a Russian platform: “Pink Floyd Forever”. According to the politician, there are still people with respect in the West.
