Newly promoted SpVgg Bayreuth continues to learn the hard way in the 3rd division: for a long time, the “old town” was the better team against SC Freiburg II. Shortly before the end, the guests had a chance to score the decisive winning goal.
Vincent Vermeij’s 87th-minute goal gave Upper Franconia a late knockout in a game they never, ever should have lost. For long stretches, the SpVgg was the better and more active team. But if you don’t take your chances in this strong 3rd division, you’ll end up going home without a point.
Nollenberger and Heinrich fail
Attacker Alexander Nollenberger had the first third league goal for SpVgg on his feet twice: Shortly before half-time he failed at SC keeper Noah Atubolu, in the 57th minute he had already beaten the goalkeeper, but Nollenberger’s ball went just wide of the goal to the left . After Vermeij’s goal, Moritz Heinrich finally had a huge chance. Atubolu was able to parry his shot from twelve meters.
The old town convinced above all defensively. They made the spaces very narrow and hardly allowed the guests a good chance. Up front, the coordination and assertiveness were still missing here and there. So they continue to wait for the first goal and the first point in the 3rd league.
