In the late 1990s, Monica Lewinsky, 49, became public about her secret relationship with US President Bill Clinton, 75. The relationship sparked a scandal, as Lewinsky was a young intern at the time of the relationship.
Lewinsky and the controversy are referenced in Beyoncé’s 2013 song Partition.
– He undid my buttons, he tore open my blouse, he threw Monica Lewinsky on my outfit, the song sings.
Lewinsky has asked the singer to remove the mention from the song before, but Beyoncé has not done so.
Beyoncé’s latest album has been a whirlwind since its release. Released on July 29, the album received criticism for Heated– the song used a derogatory term. The term used by Beyoncé refers to people suffering from spastic brain injury, as well as people suffering from mental health problems. The word was eventually replaced with another word.
With the uproar, Lewinsky put her own request on the back burner again on her Twitter account.
– Hmm… Now that we’re on the subject… #partition, Lewinsky writes in her tweet.
In addition to the use of a derogatory word, also from the song Energy there was an uproar. The song features a small clip of singer Kelis’ legendary song Milkshake – song. Kelis was enraged by the borrowing of her song, because Beyoncé had not asked for permission to borrow it. On August 3, it was reported that the quote would be removed.
On July 29, Beyoncé released her new album Renaissance. However, the album was already leaked on the internet, which infuriated the singer’s fans.
