Olympic champion France has completed the semi-finals of the European Handball Championship. Despite being behind for a long time, the French defeated world champions Denmark by 30:29 (12:17) on Wednesday evening in Budapest. The Danes, who had already been a semi-finalist before their first tournament defeat, were not enough to win despite the ten goals of their best thrower Niclas Kirkeløkke (Rhein-Neckar Löwen). France’s top scorers were Dika Mem and Hugo Descat, each with eight goals.
DHB team is seventh
The French will now meet record European champions Sweden in Budapest on Friday. Denmark plays against defending champions Spain.
After the end of the main round it is also clear that the already eliminated German team will end the tournament in Slovakia and Hungary in seventh place.
