Ukrainian international
“I’ve decided that this is the only club I want to go to,” Shakhtar Donetsk’s Mykhaylo Mudryk, 21, said of Bayer Leverkusen in late May amid rumours. More than two months later, a transfer has still not been concluded, but as reported by “Kicker”, the “Werkself” are planning a new attack on the attacker. Accordingly, there could be another attempt to sign the Ukrainian international this week. It is conceivable that Bayer will adjust its offer again. There is a transfer fee of 20 million euros in the room.

Brentford FC previously offered a sum at this level – Transfermarkt was able to confirm a corresponding “Sport1” report in May. According to reports, there was no change as Mudyrik wanted to go to Bayer to play in the Champions League. At Shakhtar, the offensive power has played six games in the “premier class”. Mudyrik made the leap to the Ukrainian record champions’ professional squad in January 2021 and has appeared in 26 games so far, scoring two goals and nine assists. The right-footed player, who mainly plays on the left wing, was one of the winners in the latest market value update, when he was upgraded from 4 to 9 million euros. His contract with Shakhtar runs until the end of 2026.
Although FC Brentford appear to have been eliminated as a competitor in the courtship for Mudyrik, Bayer is not alone in its interest as OGC Nice are also said to be interested in the Ukrainian. But the French cannot score with a Champions League participation, they are only fighting for a place in the group stage of the Conference League. In June, sporting director Simon Rolfes assessed whether there would be a deal before the end of the transfer in less than four weeks: “The matter with Mudryk is still open. We’ll see how that develops. That’s all I can say.” Signing the attacker would increase Bayer’s spending to over EUR 30m after buying Adam Hlozek (19) for EUR 13m, which is more than four clubs in the league.
