The holiday is over – now it’s back to everyday life. But there is a way to organize the end of the day so that the post-vacation blues don’t hit as hard.

An active evening after work can help alleviate the post-holiday blues. Even when the holiday is over, it’s important to allow yourself smaller and larger breaks in everyday life, says sports scientist Prof. Ingo Froboese from the German Sport University in Cologne.

And it’s best not to spend it with series or your smartphone on the sofa. “Breaks in which we are physically active have a significantly better and faster effect on our recovery than passive ones,” says Froboese.

What an active end of work looks like can be very different. “If your everyday work is demanding, choose quiet exercise units such as walks or a simple hike after work to compensate,” says Froboese.

If you sit at your desk all day, you can challenge yourself a little more in the evening – with a bike ride, a jog or a HIIT workout, for example, i.e. high-intensity interval training with short but tough loads.

No matter what you decide: The advantage of an active end of the day is that it is not only good for the body, but also stabilizes the psyche.
