Puig ahead of LA Galaxy transfer
After five additions for 153 million euros and the sale of club assets in order to be able to finance them and register them for game operations, FC Barcelona is increasingly doing something on the disposal side. After defender Óscar Minguezas (23) moved to Celta Vigo, midfield talent Riqui Puig (22) is likely to leave his youth club soon. And striker Memphis Depay (28) is apparently in talks with the Catalans about a free transfer.
The latter reports transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. Accordingly, a transfer for a transfer, the last time around 20 million euros had been traded, was ruled out. The club and the Netherlands international’s entourage are in negotiations on how a free departure can be made. If offers come in, Depay will only consider those from top clubs, otherwise he wants to stay. In the TM rumor mill, he has recently been linked to Juventus, Tottenham Hotspur and his former club Manchester United, among others.

Departures at FC Barcelona: In addition to Depay, Braithwaite and Puig are also in focus
Barça also took Depay on a free transfer a year ago after his contract with Olympique Lyon ended. The right-footed player, the dream player of the then coach Ronald Koeman, who knew him from “Elftal”, signed until 2023 and managed 13 goals and two assists in 37 competitive games. After the top-class signings, however, the Dutchman is probably only number three in the storm center. In addition to him, Martin Braithwaite (31) should also leave the club free of charge – both would save Barcelona millions in salary.
I find it completely understandable that a Depay that came for free and has adapted to our salary requirements would like a free transfer to make a decent earnest money, for example. In a way, Barca owe him that too, in my opinion. He came primarily because of the coach and that’s why the contract was designed in such a way that you don’t stay stuck on each other for unnecessarily long.

Puig will also leave the Spanish top club without a transfer and will soon join Los Angeles Galaxy in the MLS with a three-year contract. The newspaper reports “Mundo Deportivo“. According to this, Barcelona secured a resale clause for the 22-year-old homegrown. The transfer needs to be finalized in a short amount of time as the US transfer window closes on August 4th.
