Shownieuws now also has spies who photograph celebrities during private moments. Yesterday’s show section featured Matthijs van Nieuwkerk who is sitting on a French terrace with his girlfriend.
Dutch celebrities can hardly walk the street unseen anymore. Passers-by capture the stars en masse on the sensitive plate, and then send it back to the juice channels. They are full of the often somewhat grainy photos of stars during private moments. And Shownieuws is now also participating in this.
Matthijs on the terrace
Yesterday evening the Shownieuws viewer was presented with a photo of Matthijs van Nieuwkerk in the sun on a terrace. He was shot from behind, so you only see the back of his head and neck in that photo. The face of his girlfriend Martha Riemsma is visible. She has sunglasses on. The crime scene? St. Tropez.
It is a photo that you normally quickly swipe through on a juice channel, but Shownieuws has now turned it into a minute-long item, expertly covered by Story boss Guido den Aantrekker. “They were caught by us there. You see it here. You recognize Matthijs immediately by his haircut.”
18 euros for soup
Matthijs and his girlfriend were sitting on the terrace of Château de la Messardière, Guido knows. “It is a very luxurious chateau where you can eat very fantastically and sleep very well. Dining there doesn’t even cost that much money in itself, because you can eat a starter there for 18 euros, for example.”
You can get a mushroom soup for that price, Guido knows. “Well, that’s really nothing on the Côte d’Azur, those are snack bar prices, but a room… I just checked it again: if you want to book that tonight, the cheapest room costs 900 euros per night.”
Enjoying luxury
It has been awarded to Matthijs, according to Guido. “I know Saint-Tropez a little bit. I love coming here and it’s a really beautiful castle. Matthijs loves luxury. He also drives a Porsche Cayenne and likes to surround himself with beautiful things. He worked hard for that too. Saint-Tropez is of course really the epicenter of the jet set now.”
Will the NPO star really sleep in that castle? “They’re there and we honestly don’t know if he’s going to sleep there, but he’s been spotted there eating with Martha.”
Guido knows Martha personally. “It is a former colleague of mine at DPG Media. She is a really nice woman and Matthijs thinks so too.”

Martha stopped this year after eight years as editor-in-chief of De Twentsche Courant Tubantia, partly because of Matthijs. “The world in which he functions also opens up a completely different perspective for me. Making television and what comes with it, is inspiring,” she admitted in an interview. “The world is a lot bigger that way.”
Incidentally, the same Martha, according to Private boss Evert Sankrediets, has caused a troubled relationship between Matthijs and his children. “That’s because they blame him that that relationship with Martha had some overlap with his marriage, to put it nicely.”
