Bundesliga club VfB Stuttgart has reached the second round of the DFB Cup. Nuremberg and Karlsruhe are also further.
The first round of the DFB Cup began with the games on Friday evening. There were no surprises: VfB Stuttgart (1-0 in Dresden), Karlsruher SC (8-0 in Neustrelitz) and 1. FC Nürnberg (2-0 at Kaan-Marienborn) all did their duty.
Dynamo Dresden – VfB Stuttgart 0:1
VfB Stuttgart narrowly cleared the first hurdle in the cup. Coach Pellegrino Matarazzo’s team beat third division club Dynamo Dresden 1-0 (1-0) and celebrated a successful start to their competitive game a week before the start of the Bundesliga.
Darko Churlinov (33rd minute) scored in front of 22,644 spectators in the Rudolf Harbig Stadium for Stuttgart, who were outnumbered in a hectic final phase after Waldemar Anton (67th) received a yellow-red card. With the victory behind them, VfB are now going into the game against RB Leipzig on August 7th at the start of the Bundesliga.
After the failed third division start against 1860 Munich (3: 4), Dresden conceded the next bankruptcy and is still waiting for a competitive win this year.
TSG Neustrelitz – Karlsruher SC 0:8
Karlsruher SC made it through to the second round of the DFB Cup. At the Mecklenburg Oberliga club TSG Neustrelitz, the bottom of the table in the 2nd Bundesliga won 8-0 (3-0). In front of a good 3,000 spectators, the outstanding Fabian Schleusener (12th/14th/41st) as well as Jerome Gondorf (67th), Malik Batmaz (71st), Daniel Gordon (73rd) and Simone Rapp (82nd/87th) scored. the goals for the KSC. TSG, which had previously failed at KSC in 2007 (0:2 after extra time), conceded their fourth first-round defeat in the cup.
