Balenciaga creative director Demna Gvasalia has been named ambassador for Ukrainian President Zelenskyy’s fundraising campaign

The fashion house Balenciaga supports the United24 platform to help refugees. Creative chief Demna Gvaslia has become an ambassador for the fundraising platform, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said in a post on Instagram on Thursday.

In the post is a photo from a video call between Zelenskyy and Gvasalia, as well as a picture of the charity sweatshirt the designer created for the fundraiser. The garment is available on United24’s website and 100 percent of the net proceeds will be donated to the humanitarian efforts of the organization Rebuild Ukraine.

The organic cotton T-shirt, which costs 200 euros, shows the Ukrainian flag on the front and a QR code on the back.

support for Ukraine

United24 was launched by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy as the main platform for raising funds in support of Ukraine. The funds will be transferred to the official accounts of the National Bank of Ukraine and used by the relevant ministries to meet urgent needs.

Georgian designer Demna Gvasalia, Balenciaga’s creative director, has been a champion of the country since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine in February. Born in Georgia, Gvasalia himself fled as a child from the civil war in his country, in which Russia was also involved. He has already captured the theme of flight and expulsion in his previous catwalk shows, most recently for the autumn-winter 2022 season.
